ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT OF 1OAC 2005-2006
Part A:
Raja Bahadur Venkat Rama Reddy Women's college. Hyderabad was established in the year 1954 by the Hyderabad Mahila Vidya Sangham. The college had the great privilege of having Dr. S. Radhakrishnan , Prime Minister Jawarlal Nehru, Smt Indira Gandhi and the President of India Honorable APJ Abdul Kalam as dignitaries at different functions organized by the college during the last 50 years of its glorious existence.
The main objective of the institution is to promote quality education among women hailing from the backward regions of the state. In consonance with this objective, 60% of the seats at the undergraduate level are reserved for girl students hailing from rural areas and the college provides hostel accommodation in the campus.
Autonomy was conferred on the college in 1989 and several new programmes and a few certificate courses were introduced under autonomy. Semester system was introduced in 2000-2001.
The IQAC and QAC meetings were conducted 5 times in the academic year 2005-2006.

Part B:
Action taken in the decisions of the Meetings:
During the academic year 2005-2006, the college has introduced M.Sc Chemistry and M.Sc Mathematics. A new combination of subjects with Chemistry, Biochemistry and Computer Science is introduced at B. Sc level. The combination MPE, which started only last year, has the first batch of 2nd year degree students this year. A UGC sponsored certificate and Job Oriented course in Foreign Exchange and Trade too commenced this year. Almost all the Science Departments have taken their students on field trips for a greater exposure to the subject. With this the programmes in U.G. are 34 and P.G. are 4 and 7 Certificate Courses
The syllabi for all the U.G courses are prepared to suit the semester under the supervision of the respective BOS members and the syllabus for the newly introduced Certificate Courses under the supervision of the experts in the field.
Internal Assessment tests are introduced this year in the semester systems. Two Internal Assessments are conducted every semester for 10 marks. The final semester paper is for 40 marks and the duration of the semester exam is 2 hours. Continuous evaluation is done
in practicals in Sciences. While 20 marks are allotted for continuous evaluation, the final
practical examination, which is conducted eh the end of the year is for 30 marks.
The total number of teachers is 121 with 46 aided and 75 unaided teachers. 20 teaching staff and 5 non-teaching staff were recruited this year. This makes the teaching and non-teaching ratio 2:1 this year.
The unit cost of education is Rs 8089 inclusive of salaries and Rs 378 exclusive of salaries for the undergraduate courses.
Four aided lecturers, who are availing FIP for their doctoral studies are progressing in their research work. The management of our college had allotted a seed money of Rs 1 Lakh towards encouraging research among the unaided teaching staff. Three lecturers have received an amount of Rs 5000/- each this year. Two of them submitted the Theses, after receiving the seed money and the third had published a postdoctoral research paper and a review article in a book of International level
A number of teaching staff, aided and unaided have registered for Ph.D by private study. The HOD in Telugu is a Research Supervisor with 2 Ph.Ds to her credit. A few more are working under her for Ph.D.
Staff have attended a number of seminars and presented papers. The details of seminars, paper publications, extension lectures, etc are given in the table below.

A one-week Regional level "Research Methodology Course'" for college Teachers of Social Science and Commerce was organized in August 2005 by Sociology department. Prof V.S Prasad, Director of NAAC, was the chief guest for the inaugural of the same.
A seminar on Strategic Cost Management was organized by the Department of Commerce in September 2005. The faculty of Chemistry had conducted a regional level seminar on "Reaction Mechanisms" in December 2005.
A 2-day Management Meet was conducted by the Department of Management. A 10- day workshop was organized by the PG Computer Science Department on 'Computer Basics'.
A Minor Research Project entitled "Divorce in India", a Socio-legal Study was sanctioned by UGC SERO for 2 years and the grant for this is Rs.65,000.
One Major and a minor project are submitted by the Department of Business Administration.
The college has MOUs with 14 other institutions which includes Swami Ramananda Teertha Institute for Rural Development and a couple of Hospitals of great repute in Hyderabad.
The Internal resources generated this year are Rs 20, 70, 213. They are mainly in the form of donations.
The foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Academic Block was laid by an NRI donor,
Mr.N.Damodar Reddy, who pledged to donate Rs 50 lakhs out of which, an amount of Rs
25 lakhs was donated already.
The staff contributed to CM's Relief fund to help those affected by natural calamities. Some members are involved in the activities of Manasa , a day-care home for the mentally challenged children . The department of Sociology had adopted two slums near the college to motivate the slum dwellers to participate in the development activities. The department had also adopted a village Galigudem, about 80km away from Hyderabad. Work commenced for a Baby Care Centre and a Senior Citizen's Forum in the campus.
The libraries, three in number are computerized for lending, purchase of books and for stock verification. The libraries open half an hour before the commencement of the college and close one hour after the college closes on all working days. They are open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM during vacation except on Sundays.

The library is connected with Osmania University Library for Inter Library borrowing.
The college has open access system which is very helpful for students and staff.

The work for recording student - book ratio in each subject has commenced and the details will be ready within a month.
The amount spent on books for the Library this year exceeded Rs 31akhs.The college has taken institutional membership from the British Library. The staff of the college has been utilizing the Osmania University library also.
New Identity Cards are made for the students and staff. A lamination machine is bought for this purpose and the full process of making the laminated Identity Cards is done in the college itself.
The system of obtaining ‘Feedback’ from the students is continued. The points are analyzed carefully and the action on teachers, who are specially asked to improve in the specific areas, as per the analysis of the feedback is recorded and the whole process of this analysis is kept totally confidential. To look into the grievances of the students, the Suggestion Boxes, kept at different places in the campus are being used extensively by the students and action is being taken on each suggestion and recorded in the Students' Grievance register. This form of expression of Grievances and attending to them is receiving wide appreciation from the students. The students feel very secure about the whole process as expression of Grievances does not involve identity of the student.
The records of Remedial Classes have been maintained professionally.
The administration of the college is totally computerized. This includes the Office, Examination Branch and Libraries. The admission process, results of the examinations and issue of certificates are all computerized.
There is an appreciable increase in the infrastructure of the college. This year, the college constructed 7 new rooms making the total number of classrooms to 47 in addition to the already existing 28 science labs and 13 staff rooms. One more lab is under construction for the use of M. Sc (Chem) course.
A room for housing Consumer Co-operative Stores is built with the donation of Rs. 1 lakh received from the Alumni Association. The Co-operative Stores and the Canteen in the campus are managed wholly by the students and staff of Commerce department. The stores caters to the stationary needs of the students and also provides other essential items for the hostel students.
The Canteen provides a variety of tasty, nutritious and popular items at very reasonable rates as the Canteen or the Consumer Co-operative Stores are not profit making units.
A Gym with equipment like treadmills, exerciser, stepper, twister, cycles are set up this year and they are used by the students and staff. This is done at a cost of Rs 40,000. Hostel students can also use the Gym outside the college hours. A table-tennis table is placed in the hostel to provide hostel students recreational facility whenever they want in the evenings.
Inter collegiate Chess Tournaments are conducted in the college this year. Students also participated in All India Inter University Ball badminton Tournaments at Tirupathi.
The Central Computer Facility which started this year with Internet facility is being widely used by the students and the staff. Students are using this facility for project work documentation.
The AV room is modernized to suit the AV needs of the college at a cost of about Rs. 65,000.
All facilities for providing OHP, LCD, DVD etc., are available in the room and most of the meetings are held in this room. All the departments have the CDs on their topics and the departments present their information through LCD. The libraries' open access system and the extensive use of the Central Computer Facilities are indications of technical upgradation.
Many students received financial aid from the government. More than 50% of the students received financial aid in the form of B.C, S.C, and S.T. scholarships. The students also received National Merit Scholarship and a Scholarship Awarded by the Urdu Academy.
In addition to this, several other students received scholarships instituted by the college through donations from philanthropists. The best sports person also received a cash prize of Rs 400/- as a token of appreciation. The management, in order to encourage and appreciate academically talented students, reimbursed the tuition fee for the toppers in Arts, Science and Commerce faculties in non-scholarship category.
The Alumni association is very active and is ever willing to contribute for the welfare of the college. As mentioned earlier, the Consumer Co-operative Stores owes its existence to the Alumni Association. As some of the present staff members are also members and office bearers of the association, any need of the college that is referred to the association has been receiving favourable consideration.
The Parent -Teacher meets are turning out to be a very essential component of a healthy relationship among students, parents and institution. Parents are eager to discuss academic and non-academic issues of the college thereby contributing to the college for further improvement of the functioning of the college.
Starting of the Health Centre and the appointment of an experienced lady doctor in the college campus are a very welcome step in the college. Several students, staff and their families utilise the services of the doctor. In addition to this, the facilities provided at all the local 40-bedded hospital with which the college entered into MoU is also being used in times of need. Most of the students meet the doctor for personal health counselling also.
A staff member of the college is officially designated by the O.U as a Unit Coordinator for N.S.S- of the college. Some of the activities undertaken by the N.S.S. include Campus Cleaning, providing student volunteers for all important functions of the college. N.S.S students participated in Aids Awareness program where the CM addressed to the students. They had also visited the "Disabled Home" on World Disabled Day. The college N.C.C. unit under the able guidance of the NCC officer in the rank of a Lieutenant is very active. Two cadets from this group received "Sahara Scholarships "of Rs.30, 000/- each, based on their academic merit through N.C.C. Another cadet participated in Youth Exchange program at Russia during September 2005. One more cadet in the rank of a Sergeant was selected to go for Pilot selections at Mysore in February 2006.
The students not only participated in our college academic and cultural activities, but also in activities conducted by other colleges. The students got second place in the Intercollegiate Drama Competitions conducted by Koshish Theatre group. They also secured 2nd place in the Dance Competitions conducted by Osmania University.
The Guidance and Counselling Cell:
The Guidance and Counselling Committee conducts counselling and guidance to all students.
Each staff member is allotted around 15 students and the students meet the concerned counsellor not only in the official counselling sessions, but also other times depending on their need. This definitely improved the teacher- taught relationship to a great deal.
The Placement Cell, under the guidance of committed staff had enhanced the activities this year. Many reputed organizations like Wipro, Cognisant Technologies, Genpact and HSBC have conducted campus placements and several students are selected through this cell. The students, who are selected for WIPRO, are also assured that they will be pursuing their M.S. from BITS Distance Education through the work they do in the office.
The college has increased the MoUs to 14 this year. This includes organizations that provide the OJT for students for project work and also organizations that developed job oriented skills in Science like Scientific Labs, Diagnostic centers and national level institutes that develop skills in solar energy related useful items. Some organizations provide facilities for research, specially in Chemistry.
Value- based education is given by inviting several spiritual leaders to address the students and staff.
The college had the rare privilege of having His Excellency The President of India, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam as the chief guest to deliver the Valedictory Address for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in August 2005. His speech on '"Evolution of Enlightened Women" had won the greatest appreciation from all students, staff and the guests alike.
The college has gone for NAAC Reaccredidation in January 2006. The Peer Team consisted of Prof.M.Chandramani, the Chairperson, Prof.S.P.Pathak, Smt.Bandana Chatterji, the members and Mr.B.S.Madhukar, the NAAC Co-coordinator. The college was reaccredited with Grade ‘A’.
The college principal has been nominated for the Academic Senate of the Osmania University.
With this as a reward for the hard work put in by every person involved in the college, the college is planning several other measures in order to enhance the quality of the college.
